My Process
Sometimes I know where I’m going, but more often, I let my heart lead and just flow.
Those first moments are thrilling steps into a journey of unknowns, where I trust the process to guide me to a place of clarity. It always starts with a line.
Using only a Sharpie, I freehand draw every design at Motherland Designs. The motifs often reflect the cultural richness that has shaped my life—from the intricate embroidery on my mother’s saris to the delicate, repetitive patterns of traditional henna. These motifs, etched in my mind as symbols of beauty and grace, are transformed into art that speaks to both the past and the present.
Inspiration also flows from the world around me—the natural forms I see in the trees outside my window and the harmonious symmetry found in nature. This organic beauty is woven into each piece, creating a seamless interplay of structure and spontaneity. The pieces are not perfect, but they are not meant to be.
At its core, Motherland Designs is a celebration of cultural heritage and the endless possibilities that arise when you embrace the unknown. My artwork is an invitation to pause, reflect, and connect with the journey of creation—one that is as limitless as each of us.
